Maricopa County Community Colleges District seeks applications and nominations of experienced, innovative, and knowledgeable individuals for their next chief of police. Reporting to the chief operating officer, the chief of police oversees the law enforcement and crime prevention activities of the Maricopa County Community Colleges District (MCCCD) police department, including developing, planning, and implementing policies and procedures designed to provide a safe and secure environment at all college sites. The chief provides leadership and indirect supervision of over 100 staff on ten campuses. This is an in-person role, and the anticipated start date is November/December 2024.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in criminal justice, law enforcement, or related field and six years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, which includes two years of police command-level experience (lieutenant or above). An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the job’s essential duties such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Possession of a valid State of Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) certification and possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver’s License, or ability to acquire these credentials upon hire are required.
